Where did the name Underdog come from?

When my wife and I were thinking about a name for our business, the name underdog came up for a few reasons. For one, I am an avid boxing enthusiast who roots for the underdog at all times. I am also a big fan of the Rocky movie franchise. There is something so inspiring about the speech that Rocky gives to his son. Read it below or watch the clip here.

“Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place and I don't care how tough you are it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't about how hard ya hit. It's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done! Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain’t you. You’re better than that!"

― Sylvester Stallone (Rocky Balboa 2006)

Second, we were brand new to Georgia at the time and looking to take our business to the next level by going full time. At one point I was asked, "aren't you concerned with all the competition?" I could have chosen to focus on my competition or focus on doing the best work in the business and establishing a positive reputation one nail at a time. I chose the latter. There is honor in being the underdog and we've been going strong now for years! Underdogs always surprise you when you least expect it and as I tell my sons, in the end, hard work and persistence always pay off.

Plus, our dog Finn is our company mascot! It can't be any better than that!
